President's Message February 26, 2011

Dear Fellow AMHE members,

I hope this note reaches you all in good health.  Saturday, February 26, 2011, marked our first meeting of the year.  It was a very successful meeting with a great turnout.   For those of you who could not make it, we missed you and hope to see you at the meeting in April.

Many important issues were discussed at the meeting.  As you may know by now, the AMHE Convention 2011 is to take place in Panama at the Breezes Resort.  It promises to be a great success but everyone’s participation will be required to make it a reality.   The Scientific and Sociocultural Committees are being formed and we encourage you to join the effort.  As you know, the South Florida Chapter is the host of the convention and we need each and every one of you to succeed.  The Convention Committee under the leadership of Dr. JPP Cadet will lead our efforts.

We decided yesterday to support Dr. Vulcain’s efforts to control the cholera epidemic in the North of Haiti, by making a significant financial contribution.   To increase the visibility of AMHE in the community, we created a Public Relations Committee.   To better organize the Chapter, we decided to invest in a virtual office, an economical way of having a standing office with secretarial services.  We will support the Board of Trustees of AMHE in their decision to create the Executive Director position in an effort to increase the effectiveness of AMHE as a whole.

We thank the outgoing Advisors for their guidance to the Executive Committee over the last 2 years.  Join me in welcoming and congratulating the new Advisory Committee members.
We extend a special thanks to Dr. Herold Merisier for his continued support. I want to thank the members of the Executive Committee for the countless hours of hard work.
